Casey is a vigilante. That means that he beats up on people, for the good of mankind. It also means that he does it without the law behind him. He just does it for the fun of it. Plus it really burns calories, and he's been trying to watch his weight.
It's a steady regimine of 50 skull crunches, 100 overhead bat smacks, and 25 leg snaps, daily. Good for the abs, as well as a great aerobic excercise.
Casey wasn't always a vigilante, though. No, long ago he was a hockey player... I guess, when you think about it, those two fields aren't really that different. You're beating up on guys with big wooden sticks. The only difference is that in hockey it's legal, and you get paid.
He had to leave hockey, though, when he got injured. I think it was a blown out knee, but then anytime you hear of someone leaving a sport it's over a blown out knee. "I can't play billiards anymore. I blew out my knee." You'd think by now we could have found a better way to protect knees, since everyone keeps blowing them out.
Sadly, he'd only gotten to play like half a season, so there's no way to know if he was even very good at the sport. On the flipside I hear his rookie card is pretty decent...
Whatever the case, Casey took to being a vigilante. There isn't always a good reason for this move (depending on what continuity you follow), but whatever the case, he knew something had to be done, and that the only person able to do anything to help the city (and, through it, the world) would be one dude in jeans who weilded hockey sticks... Hey, it makes as much sense as a villain that wear cutlery.
Of course, eventually he ran into the turtles, fought the turtles, joined the turtles, had late night orgies with April and the turtles... it got really messy. But those aren't stories I feel like writing. Besides, I sure someone else online has already written them.
