TMNT III: The Manhattan Project, a Totally Bodacious Review by Darkmoon

Now I remember why I dislike this game so much...
TMNT 3 came hot on the heels of TMNT 2, using pretty much the same engine as the predecessor. There were small additions, a couple of extra base moves and such, but it was pretty much the same game, only, bad... Like, Mikey's kangaroo jump. He fucking jumps BACKWARDS! WTF! "OMG foot solders!" (jumps away).
I always was annoyed by those stupid super moves. They make it so that when you use the moves (even the damn Kangaroo Jump), you get hurt. A penalty for use. But , seriously, the game makes it so eventually you have to use the moves against the bosses, at least a few times, to get past them. So I get hurt by the bosses and hurt by the moves. Lame.
Shredder, showing technology he hadn't had before, levitates the entire island of Manhattan and steals it... as well as April. As we all know, April gets captured in every game. It's not like Shredder ever makes advances on her. I swear, if the dude aint gay, he must not go for brunettes. Anyway, it's up to the turtles, who were on vacation, to save the day.
Let's take a moment go back and think about this. He steals the whole island. I mean, that takes some major balls. The dude is making a statement by stealing the island. What he wants with it, I dunno. It wouldn't go well over his mantle, that's for damn certain.
Anyway, what follows is a hard little game. I found myself more often than not suffering from bad controls (which is weird since TMNT 2 was so responsive) and cheap enemies as I made my way through the game. Past a certain point, I gave up on taking screenshots for the site and just tried to focus on the game. Grrrr. I'll prolly have to go back through with Mabby to actually make my way through it and see if I can garner any shots not from the first two levels.
Levels are about as long as in TMNT 2. Not short, like TMNT 4, but not staggeringly long like in Hyperstone Heist. Enemies are of the same vein as the other games in the series. You can expect most all of the usual characters to show up. Foot soldiers, rock monsters, Bebop, foot soldiers, Rockstead, mousers, foot soldiers... This was a problem I always had with the games. If you keep killing the robotic foot soldiers, wouldn't Shredder eventually run out? I mean, it's not like the technodrome is a limitless deposit of metal useful for robots. It's not even like there's a mining operation in effect for the base. Otherwise it would be free by now... or wait, maybe they were mining in one episode... I dunno anymore.
Really, it's just not that polished a game. Worth a try, but not worth going the distance.
Score: 7.2
