The Unconvincing Turtle Titan (Season 1, Episode 12)

This was an episode I was dead set to hate once I started watching it. It wasn't the thought of Mikey as a superhero, although aren't they super enough as is? Naw, it was the way they shifted the world of the TMNT around, with some glaring plotholes left open, when you think about it.
See, there's this superhero in town, Silver Sentry. He apparently flies around, all Superman like, fighting the good fight. Mikey gets it into his head that he wants to be like SS. When the other brothers laugh at the idea, making scoffing noises, Mikey wanders off to do it on his own. With a little help from April in the costuming department, Mikey becomes the Turtle Titan.
For a superhero, Mikey actually isn't that fantastic. He kind fails at the working with the citizens, and actually has to be saved by Silver Sentry once. But, he does stumble onto a plan of the nefarious variety. Seems the arch-nemesis of Silver Sentry... who's name I can't remember, so he'll be known as Gary, has little mind control devices. We know where this is going. Sentry falls under the spell of the mind control, and it's up to Mikey tosave him and save the day. In the process, he learns that being a ninja turtle is more important that being a hero.
All of that is well and good, and I like the way they handle the whole superhero angle. The problem stems from this: Silver Sentry is supposed to be the best hero. He rids the city of criminals. If he's so good then, why is there still a Purple Dragon gang and the Foot? Hmmmm...
Plot holes aside, it was an amusing ep. It's not often Mikey gets to hog the spotlight.
Score: 8.9
