Mouser Rant: Old vs. Young

Click-spark Whirr-whirr-spark

(Hey all. Since this is the first rant for Ny on a 10, I figured I'd just briefly mention that, as we get more rants, this section will flip over to an easy to browse index. For now though, it seemed wiser just to make the rant the only thing on the page--saves space and time.)

(That said, I got a major bone to pick over the new series. I know it's been said before, but the new series is seriously geared towards children. I know that the old series was geared for kids, but at the time, being a kid, it didn't bother me. That was years ago though, and now, with a series so specifically geared for children on the air using the TMNT name, I'm saddened.)

(Honestly, would it have been so hard for them to make the series enjoyable for all ages. I can think of a number of cartoons that were as fun for adults to watch as kids. The Tick, Animaniacs, Freakazoid, those all had humor kids and adults could enjoys. And lets not forget Batman, Spiderman, and the 80ss/90s X-Men cartoon. These were full of action, but engaging for all ages.)

(The new TMNT though lacks that spark of writing and wit that makes it fun for anyone over the age of 12 to watch. I love the turtles, don't get me wrong, but I get bored after a while watching characters with stilted dialogue make idiot choices of logic. Bleh.)

(They really blew it with the whole series. I just hope if they do a new movie any time soon, they use different, smarter, better writers.)

(I mean, look at the old Movie. That's not always sparkling on the writing front, but you can tell the people in charge knew they had to make a movie the adults would watch as well. In fact, this is a porblem with a lot of movies and shows now that a gear for "all ages." They really aren't. They have bad writing and stupid humor and are a pain for aults to take kids too. It's all just a ploy to get a little extra cash out of parental pockets. Used to by studios knew that if the parents enjoy a flick, they are more likely to buy it for their kids, as well as take the kids to see it more than once.)

(But ah well, I am just an adult trapped in the body of a rat-eating machine. Hollywood will ignore my pleas.)
