More Fun at the Cidery

Halcyon Days Cider Co.: Fall Flavors

A recent trip back to Halcyon Days revealed that they had updated their cider options. New fall flavors had been introduced, swapping out for some previous selections we had tried before. That meant we needed to sample the new items (and then review them). Really, it was just an excuse to drink more cider:

Bitten

The smell is of a mild sort, but the fresh kind. The tartness also adds to brighten the taste buds, but not in a way that sends you in a spin, as the dryness keeps you grounded. The mix of it all brings about an enjoyable experience, especially for the fall.

Fade to Black

The blackberry smell is strong, but not in an unpleasant way. It welcomes you onto the porch to enjoy. It has a solid berry flavor yet the taste overall is mellow. The alcohol flavor is not obtrusive in the slightest, so overall the enjoyment of this one is solid, especially for those who prefer a more berry-type flavor profile.

Campfire

This one was my favorite. The smell is sublime, quite sweet, marshmallow-forward. So you take a sip and expect one thing, and it is pleasant, but then as time goes by, in a slow, meandering fashion, the complete experience of a campfire roasted marshmallow takes you. First you get the sweet, then it gives way to the smokey flavor and the richness of a perfectly roasted marshmallow. It’s not just a drink, but a flavor that takes you on a journey.

Apple Cider Slushy

In one word: Amazing. The flavor is strong with the typical cider ingredients, powerful even, but not unbecoming. It’s sweet and delicious, promising nothing less and for one of the beverages that does not have alcohol in it, just as enjoyable as the rest of their adult beverage flavors. A fantastic drink for the designated driver.

Berry Lemonade Cider Slushy

This one I found to be way too dry. The alcohol was very front-facing and almost seemed obtrusive. I would have preferred more lemonade flavor to round everything off and to ease on the alcohol content. It tasted like the mix wasn’t quite as right as everything else they had served that day.
